Term of office of members of the General Council
The Rashtriya Vidhi Sansthan Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam, 1997(1) The term of office of nominated members of the General Council shall, subject to sub-sections (2) and (3), be five years. (2) Where a member becomes a member of the General Council by reason of the office held by him or his appointment, or is a nominated member, his membership shall cease when his holding of such office or such appointment ends or his nomination is withdrawn or cancelled. (3) A member of the General Council shall not remain so if he resigns, becomes of unsound mind or insolvent, or is convicted of a criminal offence involving moral turpitude, or if any member other than the Director accepts a full-time appointment in the Institute, or if he is absent from three consecutive meetings of the General Council without the permission of the Chairman, or acts against the interests of the Institute. (4) Any member of the General Council may resign by a letter addressed to the Chairman, and such resignation shall be effective as soon as it is accepted by the Chairman. (5) Any vacancy in the General Council shall be filled by appointment or nomination, as the case may be, by the concerned authority entitled to fill it, and the person so appointed or nominated shall hold office only for the period for which the member in whose place he is appointed or nominated would have held office had such vacancy not occurred.
