Bare Act
Sri Malai Mahadeswaraswamy Kshethra Development Authority Act, 2013
This law establishes a dedicated statutory authority to manage, protect, and develop the Sri Malai Mahadeswaraswamy temple complex and surrounding pilgrimage area in Karnataka. It transfers ownership of temple properties and administrative control to a state-controlled body headed by top public officials. The legislation regulates civic infrastructure, land acquisition, visitor accommodations, environmental protection measures like single-use plastic bans, and the auditing of temple finances and donations. It applies to temple administrators, local employees, commercial operators, and visiting pilgrims. This Act matters because it transforms the holy shrine into a well-planned cultural and tourist destination while ensuring public safety, modern amenities, environmental conservation, and transparent management of religious funds.
