Inspection of criminal lunatic by Minister or visitors.—(1) When any person is 1 [detained] under the provisions of section 466 or section 471 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Minister-in charge of Prisons, if such person is 1 [detained] in a jail or the visitors of the asylum or any two of them, if he is 1 [detained] in any asylum, may visit him in order to ascertain his state of mind ; and he shall be visited once at least in every six months by such Minister or by two of such visitors as aforesaid ; and such Minister or visitors shall make a special report as to the state of mind of such person to the authority under whose order he is 1 [detained.]

1. (2) 2[The Government] may empower the officer-in-charge of the Jail in which such person may be 1 [detained] to discharge all or any of the functions of the Minister under sub-section (1).
