Powers and functions of University

Powers and functions of University. - The University shall have the following powers and functions, namely:—

1. (i) to administer and manage the University and establish such centres for research, education and instruction as are in consonance with the objects of the University;
2. (ii) to carry out teaching and research and offer continuing education programmes;
3. (iii) to create such teaching, research, administrative and other posts as the University may deem necessary, and to make appointments thereto;
4. (iv) to create courses of study and set up centres and specialised laboratories;
5. (v) to institute and award degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic distinctions;
6. (vi) to lay down conditions of service of all categories of employees;
7. (vii) to supervise and control the residence and regulate the discipline of students of the University and to make arrangements for promoting their health and general welfare;
8. (viii) to make such provisions as it may deem necessary to enable students to undertake studies in courses of teaching and research in areas other than those offered by the University;
9. (ix) to provide for the printing, publication and reproduction of research, educational material and other works and to organise exhibitions, conferences, symposia, workshops and seminars;
10. (x) to collaborate with other academic and research institutions or organisations within or outside India;
11. (xi) to construct, maintain and manage such buildings and other structures as are necessary for the functioning of the University;
12. (xii) to receive funds, subscriptions, donations and gifts and to manage, invest and expend the funds and endowments of the University;
13. (xiii) to undertake consultancy, research projects and other related activities;
14. (xiv) to issue guidelines for the assessment, evaluation and continuous improvement of the standards of teacher education;
15. (xv) to frame Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations for carrying out the objects of the University;
16. (xvi) to do all such acts and things as may be necessary or incidental to the exercise of all or any of the powers of the University.
