Infrastructure19623 sections
The Gujarat Municipalities (Extension of Term) Act, 1962 is a state legislative intervention designed to extend the tenure of elected municipal councillors across Gujarat. Applying to the whole State of Gujarat, this law overrode individual municipal statutes to legally prolong the terms of municipal councillors up to March 31, 1963. For ordinary citizens, the Act ensured that municipal administration, urban development projects, and public health services continued without interruption. By extending these terms legislatively, the state government prevented leadership vacuums in local urban governance while administrative reorganizations and fresh elections were being prepared.
