Bare Act
The Goa Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction Act, 2016
The Goa Regularisation of Unauthorized Construction Act, 2016 provides a framework to legalize construction undertaken in Goa before February 28, 2014, without proper permissions. It applies to individual homeowners as well as institutions and organizations in Goa who built residential, commercial, or mixed-use properties without authorization, though each structure's built-up area cannot exceed 200 square meters for personal residences or 100 square meters for other uses. The Act matters because it enables these property owners to obtain official recognition and titles to their homes through a defined application process that requires inspection and payment of applicable charges, taxes, and penalties. By establishing this mechanism, the legislation facilitates better property management, tax collection, and urban planning throughout the state.
