Bare Act
The Goa Public Men's Corruption (Investigations and Enquiries) Act, 1988
The Goa Public Men's Corruption (Investigations and Enquiries) Act, 1988 creates a statutory anti-corruption Ombudsman framework in Goa to investigate allegations of corruption against high-level political functionaries and state institution leaders, termed public men. It covers officeholders including the Chief Minister, State Ministers, Legislative Assembly members, heads of state corporations, and municipal leaders. Ordinary citizens can lodge formal corruption complaints backed by security deposits and supporting affidavits. The appointed Lokayukta holds civil court powers to compel evidence, conduct private investigations, and submit recommendation reports to state authorities. This law provides citizens a direct mechanism to challenge corruption among political leaders while enforcing strict confidentiality and penalizing false intimidation.
