The Minimum Wages (Delhi) Amendment Act, 2017
Labour201710 sections
This Act amends the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 to improve labor protections specifically for workers in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. It updates the definition of the State Government to the Lieutenant Governor and requires wage rates to consider factors like skill, arduousness, and cost of living. The law mandates that wages be paid electronically or by cheque, with cash allowed only for daily wage workers or emergencies. It also increases the overtime pay rate to at least double the normal wage and raises penalties for violations to include longer prison terms and higher fines. It further protects workers from being fired during ongoing disputes.
