Chapter I PRELIMINARY

Short title and commencement

1. (1) This Act may be called the Delhi Sports University Act, 2019.
2. (2) It shall come into force on such date as the Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,—

1. (a) "Academic Staff" means such categories of staff as are designated as academic staff by the Ordinances;
2. (b) "Centre for Community Outreach and Extension Services" means a centre established under section 28 of this Act;
3. (c) "Centre for Professional Excellence in Sports" means a centre established under section 29 or section 30 of this Act;
4. (d) "Controller of Examination" means the Controller of Examination of the University;
5. (e) "Delhi Sports School" means the school established under section 5 of this Act;
6. (f) "Finance Committee" means the Finance Committee of the University;
7. (g) "Government" means the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi;
8. (h) "Hall" means a unit of residence or of corporate life for the students of the University;
   • (i) "Lieutenant Governor" means the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi appointed by the President under article 239 of the Constitution of India;
9. (j) "Prescribed" means prescribed by the Statutes or Ordinances or Regulations made under this Act;
10. (k) "Statutes", "Ordinances" and "Regulations" mean, respectively, the Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations of the University for the time being in force;
11. (l) "Students" means a person enrolled in the University for pursuing a course of study or for research work;
12. (m) "Teacher" means Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and such other persons as may be appointed for imparting instruction or conducting research in the University or in the Delhi Sports School and are designated as teachers by the Ordinances;
13. (n) "University" means the Delhi Sports University incorporated under this Act; and
14. (o) "Vice-Chancellor" means the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
