Bare Act
The Goa, Daman and Diu Wild Animals and Wild Birds Protection Act, 1965
This law controls the hunting, capture, and commercial trading of wildlife within the Union Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu. It applies to residents and visitors, prohibiting the hunting of specified wild animals and birds without an official license, while allowing exceptions for self-defense, crop protection, or dealing with pests. The statute empowers authorities to establish game sanctuaries, regulate trophy trading, ban cruel or destructive hunting techniques, and appoint wildlife preservation officers. By creating strict licensing schemes, protected zones, and legal penalties for unauthorized hunting, the law aims to protect vulnerable animal species, manage natural fauna, and preserve the region's ecological balance.
