Definitions

Definitions.—In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,—

1. (a) "College" means an institution maintained or controlled by the University or maintained by the State Government, in which instruction is given to the students of the University in the post-graduate standard;
2. (b) 'Hostel' means a place of residence for the students of the University maintained or recognised by the University ofher than a college;
3. (c) 'College' means a college as defined in clause
4. (a) maintained or recognised by the University in accordance with the provisions of this Act or by the Statutes and Regulations;
5. (d) 'Principal' means the head of a college;
6. (e) 'Professor' means a teacher of a College or University possessing such qualifications as may be prescribed by the Statutes;
7. (f) 'University Professor' means a teacher of the University as a Professor who is responsible for the teaching or work of the University and whose services are open to exchange, in the scale of pay of Professors of the Ad-hoc/ment or a Corporation, sanctioned by the University/State Government or a post of the same rank; and
8. (g) "Statutes", "Ordinances", "Regulations" and "Rules" mean the Statutes, the Ordinances, the Regulations and the Rules of the University for the time being in force;
9. (h) "Teacher" includes, Principal, University Professor, College Professor, Lecturer, Demonstrator, and other person imparting instruction in the University;
   • (i) "University" means the University established and incorporated under section 3 of this Act;
10. (j) "University Fund" means the fund of the University established under section 46 of this Act;
11. (k) "Vice-Chancellor" means the Vice-Chancellor of the University;
12. (l) "Pro-Vice-Chancellor" means the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University;
13. (m) "Deans of student's welfare" means the Dean appointed for that purpose by the University;
14. (n) "other equivalent post" means any other post the scale of pay of which is equivalent or as the State Government may declare equivalent;
15. (o) "Commission" means 'The Bihar State University (Constituent Colleges) Service Commission' constituted by the State Government for making recommendations for appointments etc., of teachers and officers of the Universities and Constituent Colleges.
16. (p) "other Backward classes" shall have reference to extremely Backward, Backward Classes and Women of Backward Classes.
