Definitions

Definitions: – In this Act, unless there is anything repugnant to the subject or context-

1. (a) ‘Academic Council’ means the Academic Council of the University;
2. (b) 'Affiliated Institution' means an institution affiliated by the University.
3. (c) 'Affiliation' means affiliation granted by the University in accordance with the Statutes, Rules and Regulations made for the purpose;
4. (d) ‘Board of Studies’ means the Board of Studies of a Department of the University;
5. (e) ‘Chancellor’ means the Chancellor of the University;
6. (f) ‘Chief Minister’ means the Chief Minister of the State of Bihar;
7. (g) ‘College’ means a college teaching courses leading to a Bachelor or Higher degree;
8. (h) ‘Courses’ means courses as approved by the University to conduct and other concerned Apex Regulatory Body;
   • (i) ‘Governing Council’ means the Governing Council of the University;
9. (j) ‘Department’ means a Department of the University including a Centre of Studies;
10. (k) ‘Employee’ means the employee of a University including teachers, librarians, officers and non-teaching staff.
11. (l) ‘Executive Council’ means the Executive Council of the University.
12. (m) ‘Faculty’ means a Faculty of Studies of the University.
13. (n) ‘Finance Committee’ means the Finance Committee of the University;
14. (o) ‘Government’ means the Government of Bihar;
15. (p) ‘Head of the Department’ means the Head of any teaching Department of the University;
16. (q) ‘Institution’ means an academic institution, not being a College, maintained by the University;
17. (r) ‘Misconduct’ means an act of misconduct prescribed by the Statutes; ‘Notification’ means notification published in the Official Gazette;
18. (t) ‘Ordinances’ means the Ordinances of the University for the time being in force;
19. (u) ‘Principal’ means the Head of a College or Institution and includes, where there is no Principal, the person who is for the time being duly appointed to act as the Principal.
    • (v) ‘Registrar’ means the Registrar of the University;
20. (w) ‘Regulations’ means the Regulation made by any authority of the University under this Act for the time being in force;
    • (x) ‘State’ means the State of Bihar;
21. (y) ‘Statutes’ mean, respectively, the Statutes of the University for the time being in force;
22. (z) ‘University’ means a University established and incorporated as a University under this Act.
23. (aa) ‘University Fund’ means the fund of the University established under this Act.
24. (bb) ‘University Grants Commission’ means the Commission established under Section-4 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (Central Act 3 of 1956).
25. (cc) 'University Review Commission' means the commission defined under this Act;
26. (dd) ‘Vice-Chancellor’ means the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
