The Andhra Pradesh (Andhra Area) Proprietary Estates’ Village Service and the Andhra Pradesh (Andhra Area) Hereditary Village Offices Laws (Repeal) Act, 1969 formally abolished colonial-era laws governing hereditary village administration. Applying to the Andhra area of Andhra Pradesh, this legislation repealed earlier statutes from 1894, 1895, and 1881, as well as a 1969 ordinance. These older laws maintained hereditary rights and proprietary privileges for local village officers. By ending these feudal practices, the Act modernized rural governance, establishing a standardized public service system and ensuring that village administrative appointments were based on uniform state regulations rather than lineage.
