Inspection of Prisons

(1) There shall be a two-fold system for inspections of prisons: (a) Inspection conducted by senior prison officers - The Head of Prisons & Correctional Services may have a prison inspected by an officer of appropriate rank at periodic intervals, as may be prescribed by the rules; and (b) Inspections conducted by the Board of Visitors - Board of Visitors shall be headed by the District Judge and may comprise of such other official members for carrying out such functions, as may be prescribed by the rules. (2) Every inspection shall be followed by a written report to the officer-in-charge of the Prison and to the Head of the headquarters of Prisons & Correctional Services.
