The Uttarakhand Official Language Act, 2009

General20094 sections

The Uttarakhand Official Language Act of 2009 establishes Hindi in Devanagri script as the primary official language of the state, mandating its use in all ordinances, government orders, rules, regulations, and official state purposes. The state government may permit the use of international numerals for official communications. Sanskrit is designated as the second official language to preserve the linguistic interests of Sanskrit speakers. The Act repeals the earlier Uttar Pradesh Official Language Act of 1951 for the state of Uttarakhand but maintains that the legal effects of any actions already taken continue under this new legislation.
