The Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharati) Act, 2007

Infrastructure200710 sections4 chapters

This Act makes private broadcasters who hold the rights to sporting events of national importance share their live broadcast signals with Prasar Bharati. Prasar Bharati can then show these events free on its terrestrial and DTH (Doordarshan) networks, so viewers without paid channels can watch them. The Central Government notifies which events are of national importance, and advertisement revenue from the shared feed is split between the broadcaster and Prasar Bharati. Broadcasters who fail to share can be penalised or have their licence suspended.
