This Act declares the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, an institution of national importance and makes it an autonomous body. It sets out how the Institute is governed through its members, President, Vice-President and Governing Body, and how it is funded and audited. The Institute teaches, researches and treats patients in mental health and the neurosciences. It can award its own medical degrees and diplomas, which are recognised as medical qualifications, and is subject to the control of the Central Government.
