The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutes Act, 2004

Education200433 sections6 chapters

This Act sets up the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions to protect the right of religious and linguistic minorities to set up and run educational institutions of their choice, guaranteed by Article 30 of the Constitution. The Commission advises the Government on minority education, hears complaints that this right has been denied, and decides disputes about affiliation of minority institutions with universities. It can decide whether an institution is a minority educational institution, cancel that status, and hear appeals against refusal of a no-objection certificate to set up one. It has the powers of a civil court for its inquiries.
