Bare Act
The FERTILISER (CONTROL) ORDER 1985
The Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985 regulates the price, quality, distribution, and trade of chemical, organic, and bio-fertilisers across India. Issued under the Essential Commodities Act, it applies to fertiliser manufacturers, importers, wholesale and retail dealers, pool handling agencies, and industrial users. The order mandates official registration for selling or manufacturing fertilisers, prescribes strict chemical composition standards and packaging rules, and empowers government inspectors to sample and test products for adulteration. By controlling prices and ensuring equitable distribution across states, this regulation protects farmers from substandard or overpriced inputs, helping safeguard agricultural productivity and soil health.
