The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016
The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016
This amendment protects young people in India by strictly regulating their employment based on their age. It applies to children under fourteen, completely banning them from working in any occupation except for safe family enterprises after school hours, and to adolescents aged fourteen to eighteen, prohibiting them from hazardous work like mining and handling explosives. This legislation matters because it safeguards a child's fundamental right to education, shields teenagers from dangerous environments, introduces much stricter punishments for employers who violate these rules, and establishes a dedicated district level fund to rehabilitate rescued minors, thereby securing their long term safety and future.
