WHEREASthe lJccsS3ent of India, by a Proclamation'

made wdor h:lticlc 356 of tllc Cortstitulioa on the 23rd March 1956, declared ttzat thc powers of the Legislature of the State of Tsavaacorie-Cczchilr shall be exercisable by or utidez the: authority of Parliarne~t;

AND WHEREAS those powers have been conferred 011 the President by the Travancore-Cochin State Legislature (Delegation of Powers) Act, 1956 (Central Act 29 of 1956);

AND WHEREAS it is expedient to re-enact permanently some of the laws in their .application to the transfe~red

territory ;

BE it onacted in the Eighth Year of the Republic tC India as follows :-

This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu (Transferred Territory) Re-enacting Act, 1957.

In this Act, "transferred territory" means the Kanyakumari district and the Shencottah taluk of the Tirunelveli district.

The President's Acts specified in the Schedule, in their application to the transferred territory, are hereby reenacted permanently.

The re-enactment of any President's Act by section 3 of this Act shall not be deemed to affect the operation of any amendment or adaptation made in the President's Act so re-enacted or in any enactment amended by that Act, on or after the 1st day of November 1956 and before the commencement of this Act.

The Madras (Transferred Territory) Re-enacting Ordinance, 1957 (Madras Ordinance III of 1957), is hereby repealed.
