Powers of the University

The University shall have the following powers, namely:

1. (a) To provide for instruction in various branches of learning as the University deem fit.
2. (b) To make provision for(1) research, and (2) advancement of knowledge and dissemination of the findings of research and knowledge;
3. (c) To Institute And Confer Degrees, Diploma And Other Academic Distinction In The Manner And Under Conditions Laid Down In The Statues;
4. (d) To confer honorary degrees or other distinctions in the manner & under conditions laid down in the statutes;
5. (e) To admit colleges, institutions and institute not maintained by the university, to the privileges of the university, and to withdraw all or any of these privileges,
6. (f) To confer autonomous status on a College, institution or department, as the case may be, subject to such conditions as may be laid down in this Act or as may be prescribed by the Statutes and to withdraw the autonomy;
7. (g) To co-operate with other universities and authorities in such manner and for such purpose as the university may determine;
8. (h) To institute teaching, research and other posts required by the University and to appoint persons to such posts in the prescribed manner;
   • (i) To create administrative, ministerial another necessary posts and make appointments thereto:
9. (j) To institute and award fellowships (including traveling fellowships), scholarships and prizes in accordance with the statutes;
10. (k) To institute and maintain residential accommodation for the students of the University;
11. (l) To demand and receive such fees and other charges as may be prescribed;
12. (m) To supervise and control the residential accommodation for students and to regulate the discipline of the students of the university and to make arrangements for promoting their health and welfare; and
13. (n) To do all such acts and things, whether incidental to the powers aforesaid or not, as may be requisite in order to further the objects of the University. *
