2. Defirtilions.

3. The Punjab General Clnuscs Act, IQ9S, shall apply for the In~clprrratiol~. inlcrpretalion of this Act as it applies for the interprerafion of a Punjab Act.

4. Extension of certain lanrs lo
(1) All the enactments, as the amended from time to time, specified in Schedule I and so much of any of the enactments, as amendcd from time to lime. specified in Schedule II as extends to the territories which, immediate1 before the 1st November, 1956, were co[nprised in rhe State of Purljab and rela~es lo matters wilh respect to whicfi the State Lcgislat~lre has power to make laws fnr a State, and all r~les,~'regulations, notifications, orders and by-laws made, and all dircctions or instructions issued. thereunder, ~ v l ~ i c h are in force irmr.diatc.ly bc.fnrc. thc. cornrnence.nlen1 nf this Act in tllc said territories, are hereby extended lo, and slmI I be j 11 Corcc in, thc transferred reni cories.
5. Consmction of ccrtai~l references.
In the cnactmcnts, or rules, reguIations, notifications, orders and by- laws mads, and dlreciions or insiructions issiled, ilici~iiiidtr, as reicrred io in seciion 4, my refercrrct: :-- (1) to a law which is not in force in thc transferred territories shall in relation to such territories, be construed as a rcfcrcncc to thc corresponding law, if any, in force in such territories : and (2) to the State of Punjab, by whatever form of words, shall he construed as including as reference to the !ransfc.mcd r ~ ~ t n r i e . 5 .

7. Powers of Courrs and other authorities for purposes of facili~aling appljcalion of lhc cnacmcnrs spccificd in Schcdulcs I or Il or rules. crc.
For purposes of facjljtating the application in the transfeerred territories of any enactment specified in Schedule 1 or Schedulc 11 or of any ~ule, regualti on, norification, ~ider, by-law, direction or instruction referred to in section 4, any court or other aulhority may construe rhe same with such alterations, not affecting [he subsra:~ce, as may be .~pp!iecked or prnper to adapt it to [he matter before the court 01. other auh\ority.
8. Power t r ~ make rulcs, ctc, not to hc affected.
Nothing contained in this Act shall affect rhe power of the St.nte Gclvcmment nr of any oft?cer or anthnri ~y. exercisable under the enactments specified in Schcduies I and U to add io, amend, vary or rescind the rules, reguI;~lions, ~ii~rifications, ordcrs and by-laws made. and directions or instructions issucd. as extcnded by section 4 lo the tra!~sfemd tem tories.

If any aifficuiiy arises i r ~ giving effici ii-1 ihe irailsfcrrzd lerriiories to tile prmovisions of any enaclmenl specificd in Schedule I or Schedule 11, ihe Slarc Coverr~~ncnr [nay, by order noriried in Ihl: Officjn! Gazelle, make such provisions nr give such directions as appear ro it to be necessary or expedient for the removal of the difficulty.
