2. Definitions.

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) 'appointed day' means the first day of November, 1956 ; (b) 'new State' means the State of Punjab as formed under section 11 of the State Reorganisation Act, 1956 (37 of 1956) ; (c) 'Punjab State' means the territories which, immediately before the 1st November, 1956, were comprised in the state of Punjab.
