The Punjab Industrial Housing Act, 1956

Infrastructure195624 sections

The Punjab Industrial Housing Act, 1956, regulates the allotment, rent collection, and eviction procedures for government-subsidized housing in Chandigarh. It applies to industrial workers, as defined under the Factories Act, and governs the officials managing these properties. This law matters because it ensures that low-cost housing subsidized by the government goes to the workers who need it. It sets clear rules for rent deductions from salaries, defines unauthorized occupancy, and outlines rapid eviction procedures for non-compliance. Ultimately, it provides a structured framework to maintain affordable housing infrastructure, supporting the industrial workforce and preventing housing abuse.
