The Odisha Protection of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Interest in Trees) Act, 1981

General198113 sections

This Act regulates the sale of timber from specific trees owned by members of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the state of Orissa. It requires these individuals to obtain written permission from a Range Officer before entering into any contract to sell the timber. The law aims to prevent exploitation by ensuring that the consideration, or price, for the timber is adequate and fair. If the price is deemed too low, the owner may be directed to sell to a state corporation. Additionally, the Act allows existing contracts to be cancelled if the consideration was substantially inadequate.
