Bare Act
The ODISHA MERGED TERRITORIES' PETITION WRITERS' CONTINUANCE OF LICENCES ACT, 1956
This Act was a transitional legal measure enacted in 1956 to regulate the profession of petition writers in the merged territories of the State of Orissa. Following the integration of various princely states into Orissa, there was a need to standardize the licensing of individuals who drafted legal petitions for the public. This law allowed existing petition writers—specifically those who held valid licenses between January 1, 1948, and June 30, 1951—to continue their practice for a fixed period of five years. It empowered the High Court to oversee these professionals, ensuring that their conduct, discipline, and licensing conditions remained under judicial supervision during this post-merger integration phase.
