Bare Act
The Odisha Private Lands of Rulers (Assessment of Rent) Act, 1958
The Orissa Private Lands of Rulers (Assessment of Rent) Act, 1958 empowers the Odisha state government to assess and levy land rent on private lands previously held rent-free by former Rulers of merged princely states and their dependants. It appoints Revenue Officers to classify these lands into irrigated-wet, rainfed-wet, or dry categories and determine fair, equitable rent rates based on soil productivity, market value, and local rent standards. The law establishes an administrative process including preliminary notices, objections, and final appeals to the Board of Revenue while barring civil court interference. By bringing former royal estates into the standard land revenue framework, it ensures equitable taxation across the state.
