The Nagaland Deputy Speaker's Salary & Allowances Act, 1964

(1) This Act may be called the Nagaland Deputy Speaker’s Salary and Allowances Act, 1964. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force with effect from the 11th February, 1964.

There shall be paid to the Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly a salary of rupees seven hundred and fifty per mensem.

(1) The Deputy Speaker shall be provided with a free-furnished residence with grounds appurtenant thereto, in Kohima throughout the year, and also at any other place which the State Government may, from time to time, for the purpose of this Act declare to be the headquarters of Government for so long as such declaration remains in force, or at a place where the Nagaland Legislative Assembly meets. (2) Such residence and the grounds appurtenant thereto shall be maintained at the public expense which shall not exceed the amount as may be prescribed by the rules; Provided that if the Deputy Speaker does not occupy the free furnished residence provided by the Government, a house rent allowance at the rate of rupees two hundred per mensem and such service allowances as may be prescribed by rules shall be paid in lieu of such residence. Explanation – For the purpose of this section the expression “the public expenses” shall include such expenses as may be prescribed by rules.

(1) The State Government may from time to time, purchase and provide suitable conveyances for the use of the Deputy Speaker and may by rules provide for their maintenance and repair. (2) The Deputy Speaker shall further be entitled to a conveyance allowance of rupees two hundred and fifty per mensem. Provided that if the Deputy Speaker chooses to maintain his own car he shall be entitled to a conveyance allowance of rupees three hundred per mensem.

The Deputy Speaker shall not during the tenure of his office for which he draws salary and allowances- (i) practice any profession or engage in any trade or undertake for remuneration any employment other than his duties as Deputy Speaker ; or (ii) be entitled to any salary or allowance as a member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

The Deputy Speaker shall be entitled to the privilege of the free furnished residence and Government conveyance on his ceasing to hold office for such period as may be prescribed by rules.

The Deputy Speaker shall be entitled, while touring on public business, traveling and daily allowances at such rates and on such conditions as may be prescribed by rules.

The Deputy Speaker shall be entitled free of charge to accommodation in hospitals maintained or approved in this behalf by the Government and also to free medical treatment. Explanation.- For purpose of this section, the Deputy Speaker shall include his wife, his children, step-children, minor brothers and sisters and parents wholly dependent on him.

The Deputy Speaker shall be entitled to entertainment allowance of rupees two hundred and fifty per mensem.

(1) The State Government may in consultation with the Speaker, by notification in the Official Gazette, make rules for carrying out the purposes of this Act. (2) All rules made under this Act shall be laid before the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, as soon as may be, after they are made and shall be subject to such modifications as may be made by the Legislative Assembly.
