THE MIZORAM SALARIES AND ALLOWANCES OF LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1991
The Mizoram Salary and Allowances of Leader of Opposition Act, 1991
The Act provides salary and allowances to the Leader of Opposition in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, ensuring financial support for this important political role. It defines who qualifies as the Leader of Opposition—a member recognized by the Speaker who leads the largest opposition party. The Leader receives comparable remuneration and benefits to Ministers, including salary, conveyance allowances, and daily allowances as specified under the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers Act, 1987, while not receiving dual compensation for their Assembly membership. The Act also confirms that holding this office doesn't disqualify a person from being elected to the Assembly. These provisions maintain the dignity and effectiveness of parliamentary opposition in Mizoram.
