Contingency Fund of Meghalaya Act, 1972
Contingency Fund of Meghalaya Act, 1972
The Contingency Fund of Meghalaya Act, 1972, establishes a dedicated financial reserve for the State of Meghalaya, known as the Contingency Fund. Functioning as an "imprest" or emergency wallet, this fund allows the state government to access money immediately for urgent, unforeseen expenditures before the State Legislature has formally approved the budget. It applies strictly to the financial administration of the Meghalaya government. For the ordinary citizen, this Act is significant because it ensures that essential government services, disaster relief, or critical public works can continue without interruption, even when the Legislature is not in session to authorize spending.
