The Salary and Allowances of Government Chief Whip (Manipur) Act, 1989
1. Short title and commencement
- (1) This Act may be called the Salary and Allowances of Government Chief Whip (Manipur) Act, 1989.
- (2) It shall come into force on its publication in the official Gazette.
2. Definitions
In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires, (a) "Government Chief Whip" means a member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly or a Minister designated by the Chief Minister as the Government Chief Whip in the Legislative Assembly;
- (b) words and expressions not defined herein and defined in the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Manipur) Act, 1972 (Manipur Act No. 3 of 1972) shall have the same meaning respectively as are assigned to them in that Act.
3. Salary and Allowances of the Government Chief Whip
The Government Chief Whip shall be paid such salary, conveyance allowances, entertainment allowance, travelling and daily allowances and shall also be entitled to such other amenities as are provided for a Minister under the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Manipur) Act, 1972 (Manipur Act No. 3 of 1972) and rules made thereunder.
4. EXPLANATION:, For the purposes of this section, "a Minister" means a member of the Cabinet in the Council of Ministers.
Government Chief Whip not to draw any salary as a Member The Government Chief Whip shall not be entitled to receive any sum out of funds provided by the Assembly by way of salary and allowances to Members thereof:
Provided that if a Minister is designated as a Government Chief Whip, he shall not be entitled to any salary, allowances and other amenities specified in this Act and he shall be governed by the provisions of the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Manipur) Act, 1972 (Manipur Act No. 3 of 1972).
