Bare Act

The Manipur Electrict Supply-Line (Unlawful Possession) Act, 1982

General19826 sections

This Act criminalizes the theft and improper possession of public electric supply lines to protect state infrastructure. It applies to anyone who steals, possesses, or prepares to steal cables or related equipment, with punishments ranging from fines to imprisonment for terms extending up to two years for first offences and three years for subsequent repeat offences. Because the offences are cognizable, police can arrest individuals without a warrant, and this legislation takes legal precedence over other inconsistent laws. Furthermore, the state government can seize any vehicles or animals used to transport stolen lines and authorize courts to order forfeiture of such assets, while protecting officials acting in good faith under this Act from legal liability.
