The Prisoners (Bombay Amendment) Act, 1947

Criminal19595 sections

The Prisoners (Bombay Extension and Amendment) Act, 1958, was a legislative measure enacted to unify prison administration across the reorganized State of Bombay. Following the reorganization of Indian states, this Act extended the central Prisoners Act, 1900, to the Hyderabad and Saurashtra regions, while simultaneously repealing the local laws that previously governed those areas. It also applied specific amendments from the 1949 Bombay Act to the Kutch and Vidarbha regions. For the ordinary citizen, this Act served as an administrative tool to ensure that the same legal framework for prisoner management applied consistently across all territories of the state, removing regional legal fragmentation.
