Bare Act
The Bombay Drugs (Control) Act, 1959
The Bombay Drugs (Control) Act, 1959, is a regulatory statute enacted to control the sale, possession, transport, and distribution of specific "notified drugs" within the State of Maharashtra. It mandates that wholesalers and retailers obtain licenses to deal in these drugs and restricts sales to medical prescriptions to prevent misuse. The Act empowers authorities to inspect premises, seize illicit stocks, and penalize unauthorized transactions. For the ordinary citizen, this law ensures that medicines are dispensed safely and legally, preventing the black-market trade of controlled substances and ensuring that only authorized medical practitioners and licensed dealers handle these critical health products.
