Bare Act
The Bombay Diseases of Animals Act, 1948
The Bombay Diseases of Animals Act, 1948, is a legislative framework designed to prevent, control, and eradicate infectious diseases among animals in Maharashtra. It empowers the State Government to appoint Veterinary Surgeons and Inspectors to monitor animal health, establish quarantine stations, and declare specific regions as "infected" or "eradication" areas. The Act mandates that owners report suspected diseases, isolate sick animals, and comply with immunization requirements. It also regulates the movement, sale, and disposal of infected animals and carcasses. By enforcing these sanitary measures, the Act protects livestock health, supports the agricultural economy, and mitigates the risk of zoonotic disease transmission to humans.
