The Ambernath Interim Municipality
The Ambernath Interim Municipality
The Ambernath Interim Municipality (Constitution and Actions) Validation Act, 1965, is a curative piece of legislation enacted to resolve legal uncertainties regarding the formation of the Ambernath Municipality. In 1959, a village panchayat was converted into a municipality, but a procedural error in the government notification process cast doubt on the legality of the interim council's existence. This Act retroactively validates the constitution of that interim body, the transfer of assets and employees, and all administrative actions—such as tax collection and rule-making—taken between 1959 and 1961. It ensures that past municipal governance remains legally binding and immune to court challenges.
