The Maharashtra Sinhastha Fair Pilgrim Tax Act, 1980
The Maharashtra Sinhastha Fair Pilgrim Tax Act, 1980 temporarily regulated the collection of a special tax on visitors attending the Sinhastha Fair in the Trimbak Municipal area between August 1979 and September 1980. It applied to non-exempt pilgrims entering the area, charging one rupee for adults and fifty paise for children. Local residents, government officials, pedestrians, cyclists, and individuals traveling by bullock cart were exempted. The law authorized government officials and bus conductors to collect fees at entry checkpoints, issue passes, and enforce designated travel routes. It mattered because it helped local authorities manage massive crowd movements and generate state revenue during a major religious festival.
