The Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Temporary Postponement of Elections (of the Mayors and Deputy Mayors due to Ensuing General Elections to the State Legislative Assembly and Certain other Elections) Act, 2004
This Act delays the election of Mayors and Deputy Mayors in Maharashtra’s Municipal Corporations for a maximum of six months to prevent scheduling conflicts with the State Legislative Assembly elections. It permits current officeholders to continue serving and exercising their powers during this break until new elections can be arranged. The measure applies to key cities such as Mumbai, Nagpur, and others. The postponement is temporary and will last for six months or until the specific election dates are notified by the government, at which point this ordinance is repealed.
