The Madhya Pradesh Local Authorities Census Expenses Contribution Act, 1949

(1) This Act may be called the Madhya Pradesh Local Authorities Census Expenses Contribution Act, 1949. (2) It extends to the whole of Madhya Pradesh.

In this Act, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context,— (a) "Census" means the census taken by the Central Government under the Census Act, 1948 (XXXVII of 1948); (b) "Local authority" means a municipality, a district council, or any other body of persons which may be declared by the State Government by notification to be a local authority for the purposes of this Act.

Every local authority shall, if required by the State Government so to do, pay such contribution towards the expenses incurred by the Central Government in connection with the census as the State Government may determine.

If the amount of contribution due from a local authority is not paid to the State Government within the time allowed for such payment, the State Government may direct the person having the custody of the funds of the local authority to pay the same or as much thereof as is possible from the balance of such funds in his hands, and such person shall be bound to obey such direction.

If any dispute arises between the State Government and any local authority with regard to the amount of contribution payable under this Act, the decision of the State Government on such dispute shall be final and the local authority shall pay the amount so decided.

(1) The State Government may make rules for carrying out the purposes of this Act. (2) In particular and without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing power, such rules may provide for the manner in which the contribution payable by any local authority shall be calculated or assessed.

The Central Provinces and Berar Local Authorities Census Expenses Contribution Act, 1930 (IX of 1930), is hereby repealed.
