Bare Act
The Kerala Employment Guarantee Workers Welfare Fund Act, 2021
This Act establishes a dedicated welfare fund and administrative board to provide social security and financial assistance to employment guarantee workers in Kerala. It applies to registered unskilled workers aged eighteen to fifty-five participating in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme or the Ayyankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme who meet minimum work requirements. Eligible workers and the state government make monthly contributions to the fund. The law matters because it ensures crucial social safety nets for informal labourers, including retirement pensions, family pensions, disability aid, medical treatment assistance, maternity benefits, and educational support for their dependent children.
