Powers and Functions

Powers and functions of the Block Development Council. - The Block Development Council shall perform the following functions :-

1. (i) constructions, maintenance and supervision of Inter-Halqa Panchayat Communication System ;
2. (ii) administrative and technical guidance to Halqa Panchayats and review of their work ;
3. (iii) to supervise plans relating to agriculture, rural development, animal husbandry/sheep husbandry, forestry, education and public health ;
4. (iv) supervise and monitor the implementation of poverty alleviation programmes like, Integrated Rural Development Programme, National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme ;
5. (v) undertake measures for effective supervision and monitoring of various development programmes ;
6. (vi) to carry out such other functions as may be entrusted to it by the Government or by the District Planning and Development Board.

Powers and functions of the Chairman and the Vice-Chairman. -

1. (1) The Chairman, and in his absence the Vice-Chairman shall preside over the meeting of the Block Development Council.
2. (2) The Chairman, and in his absence the Vice-Chairman shall exercise general control and supervision over the staff posted in the Block Development Council.

Remuneration to Chairman and Members. -

1. (1) The members of the Block Development Council shall be entitled to such daily allowance, as may be prescribed from time to time.
2. (2) The Chairman of the Block Development Council shall be paid such honorarium as may be prescribed, from time to time.
