This Act lets the Government, by notification, declare certain offences under the Ranbir Penal Code cognizable in specified areas of Jammu and Kashmir, even if the Code of Criminal Procedure treats them as non-cognizable. These include offences such as obstructing public servants, disobeying lawful orders, outraging religious feelings, statements causing public mischief and criminal intimidation. Such notifications operate for a limited period and can be cancelled.
