Bare Act
The Jammu and Kashmir Consumer Protection Act, 1987
This Act establishes a comprehensive framework for consumer protection within the State of Jammu and Kashmir. It applies to all goods and services throughout the state and creates a structured system for redressing consumer grievances through State and District Consumer Protection Councils, Divisional Fora, and a State Commission. The law grants consumers specific rights including protection from hazardous goods, the right to information about products and services, access to affordable options, the right to be heard by authorities, and the right to seek redressal against unfair trade practices. By institutionalizing these protections and dispute resolution mechanisms, the Act empowers consumers to combat exploitation and ensures fair commercial dealings throughout the region's marketplaces.
