Bare Act
The Haryana Motor Transport Vehicles (Toll Tax) Act, 1991
This Act establishes and regulates toll collection on motor transport vehicles entering Haryana from other states. It authorizes the state government to set barriers at state boundaries where toll officers can stop vehicles, assess toll fees not exceeding 200 rupees, and enforce payment. Vehicles entering without paying toll face prohibition from operating in the state, with officials empowered to detain vehicles or parts until toll is paid. Operators who fail to pay tolls may incur penalties of up to 500 rupees. The Act provides an appeal process for those ordered to pay penalties, with the toll amounts being collected at specified barriers through prescribed methods. This legislation ensures consistent state revenue from transportation services passing through Haryana borders while protecting public roads from unauthorized use and ensuring fair contributions to maintenance.
