The Haryana Honourable Disposal of Dead Body Act, 2025
The Haryana Honourable Disposal of Dead Body Act, 2025
This Act ensures that every deceased person in Haryana receives a dignified and timely funeral, preventing the misuse of human remains for political or social agitation. It defines "remonstration" as the act of using a dead body to protest or demand concessions, which is strictly prohibited. The law mandates that family members must claim and dispose of bodies promptly. If they refuse or use the body for protests, the police and Executive Magistrates have the authority to intervene, seize the body, and ensure last rites are performed. The Act also establishes strict protections for genetic data and clinical records, ensuring privacy and preventing social stigmatization.
