Insertion of sections 23A and 23B in Bom. XL of 1955 After section 23 of the principal Act. thk following new sections 23A and 23B shall be inserted, namely : - "23A.
- (I) The Academic Couricil shall; be the .ah'demib'body of. thk Univer. sity and shall consist of the following persons, namely :-. Clm I. Ex-Oficio members.
- (i) The Vice-Chancellor-Ex-officio Chairman,
- (ii) The Registrar,
- (iii) The Deans of Faculties,
- (iv) Heads of University Departments..
- (v) Chairmen of th~'W%ds of'S@di@! {i,::,;i.k Clm II. Other members.
- (i) Two mpseswtatives -of Principls : of 8, Collcges . elected by , them from amongst, themselves.
- (ii) One rip~esentative bf Heads of recognised Ins ti tu [ions elected by them from amongst themselves : Provided that ahhemhr elected under clause
- (i) or
- (ii) shall cease to hold office as $u&,membex @,he ceases to @ a Principal of a College or a Head of ? rewgnised Institu ion as the case may be.
- (iii) two persona nominated by the Syndicate from amongst such of its members as are' not already members of the Academic Council under the foregoing provisions ol this section. (2) soon ;as7 the )Academic Council is constituted under sub-section
- (I) it shall -opt as its additional members from amongst professors, one such pro- fessor for. each of the subjec~ other than those represented under clauses (iii).
- (iv) and

- (ii) under "Class 11. Other members.".

- (1) The Academic Council shall have the control and general regula- tion of, and be respnsible4'€dr, the maintenance of the standards of ttp A,$,. and examinations with the University. mic Cou~ici!.
- (2) Without prejudice to : the generality of the foregoing provisions and subject 'to such conditions 'as rnay be prescribed by or under the provisions of this Act, the Academic Council shall exercise the following powers and perform the following duties, namely : -
- (a) to make Regulations in consultation with the- Boards of Stutlics concerned, layiqg .down #msqg of studies;
- (b) to make Regulations regnrding the special courses of study;
- (c) to arrange for co+ordinarion of studies and teaching in University and affliated Colleges and in recognised Institutions;
- (d) to hmake'pr6posals for aUokating subjects to the Faculties;
- (e) to make ptopshls far the ~tablishmeqi of University Departments, idstitutks.'of mearch .or specialised studies, libraries, laboratories and muskums:
- (f) to make proposals for the htitution of. profewmhips, readerahip, lecturerships and other posts of teachers required by the University and for prescribing th* duties and 6xhg the emoluments d such posts:
- (g) to make proposals for the institution of fellowship, travelling fellow- ship, scholarships, studentships, exhibitions, medals and p&a and to make Regulations for their award;
- (h) to make Regulations regarding the examinations of the University and the conditions on which studenis shall be admi to such examinations;
- (i) to make Regulations prescribing equivdemz of exarchatiom:
- (j) to make Regulations prescribing the manner for granting exemptions from approved courses of studies in the University or in affiliated Colleges or recognised Institutions for quauying for degrees, titles, diplomas and other academic distinctions;
- (k) to exercise such other powers and prforrn such other duties as may be conferred or imposed on it by tHis Ad, Statub, Ordiaanm and Regula- tions; and
- (l) generally to advise the University on all academic matters:"."
