Bare Act
The Inland Steam-Vessels (Gujarat Amendment) Act, 1961
This law amends the Inland Steam-Vessels Act of 1917 to specifically govern the movement of steam vessels within the entire state of Gujarat. It changes the geographical scope of the original law to include the Saurashtra and Kutch regions, effectively replacing the previous national application. The amendment introduces a clear definition for coastal shipping within the state and shifts regulatory control from the State Government to the Director of Ports and other designated authorities. This change aims to streamline the administration of inland and coastal shipping by giving port officials more direct power to issue notifications and manage vessel operations, ensuring smoother maritime transport for the region.
