Bare Act
The Gujarat Panchayats (Suspension of Provisions and Reconversion of Certain Local Areas Into Municipal Districts) Act, 1962
This Act was enacted to manage administrative transitions in Gujarat during the early 1960s. It provided the State Government with the legal authority to revert specific local areas that had been converted into Gram or Nagar Panchayats back into Municipal Districts. Essentially, it suspended the application of the Gujarat Panchayats Act, 1961, in these specific areas and dissolved the existing Panchayats. The law established a framework to transfer all assets, debts, and ongoing legal proceedings from the dissolved Panchayats to the State Government, and eventually to the newly constituted Municipalities, ensuring that local governance and tax collection continued without interruption during this transition.
