Bare Act
Short Titles (Amendment) Act, Gujarat Year 2011
The Gujarat Short Titles (Amendment) Act, 2011 updates the names of sixty-seven historical laws in Gujarat by replacing the word Bombay with Gujarat in their titles. This change applies to courts, government departments, businesses, and residents dealing with state legislation enacted between 1867 and 1960. The law backdates these title substitutions to May 1, 1960, when the State of Gujarat was formed. It matters because it aligns legal terminology with modern regional identity while keeping existing rules, regulations, and historical citations valid. Daily rights, responsibilities, and legal procedures stay unchanged, preventing confusion across official records without altering how the laws actually work.
